Choose the core business first
The primary category should describe what the company mainly is, not a small add-on service it occasionally performs.
Choose your trade, review relevant starting-point suggestions, and create a cleaner plan for your primary category, additional categories, services, and service areas.
Build Your GBP PlanYour primary category is one of the most important structural choices on a Google Business Profile. It should represent the core business as specifically and accurately as possible. Additional categories can describe other meaningful parts of the same business, while the services section gives customers a more detailed view of what you offer.
This worksheet helps organize those decisions before you edit a live profile. It is deliberately conservative: more categories are not automatically better, and a long list of unrelated services can make the business less clear.
Use the trade suggestions as a starting point. Google can change category availability by country, language, or product update, so verify every exact option inside the Business Profile editor before making changes.
Select the closest trade, edit the recommended primary category, check only accurate suggestions, and print the finished plan. Nothing entered here is submitted to Evergreen Web Solutions.
The goal is to describe the business accurately—not to turn the category fields into a keyword list.
The primary category should describe what the company mainly is, not a small add-on service it occasionally performs.
A specific trade category is usually clearer than a broad option when that trade genuinely represents the business.
Individual jobs and service variations generally belong in the services section instead of becoming additional categories.
An additional category should represent work the company actively offers and can support across its website and operations.
Category names and availability can change. Treat every third-party list—including this page—as a planning reference.
Record the categories used and the date changed. That makes future audits and performance comparisons more reliable.
These examples show the difference between a category and a service. They are not instructions to add every item shown.

A contractor that travels to customers should also review whether the profile is configured as a service-area or hybrid business.
Google’s current guidance says service areas should be entered as cities, postal codes, or other supported areas rather than a radius. It currently permits up to 20 service areas and recommends keeping the overall area within roughly two hours of the business base.
If the business does not receive customers at its address, Google directs businesses to remove the public address and use service areas. A hybrid business can show its address when it serves customers there and also travels to customers.
Use service areas to communicate where the company works. Keep them accurate and support priority markets with strong website content, consistent business information, real reviews, and a legitimate local presence.
Changing major profile information can trigger review or reverification. Confirm the business records and make changes carefully rather than repeatedly testing different settings.
Use the fewest categories needed to describe the real business accurately. Google currently allows a primary category plus additional categories, but it advises businesses not to add a category for every product or service.
No. The primary category should represent the core business accurately. Search volume can inform content strategy, but it should not override what the company actually is and does.
No. Business categories must be selected from Google’s available options. Services can be more flexible because businesses may be able to select suggested services or add custom services.
No. Availability can differ and can change. Confirm the exact wording inside your live Business Profile editor before making a plan or updating the profile.
Add specific areas the business genuinely serves and can reach. Google currently permits up to 20 service areas and recommends keeping the overall boundary within about two hours of the business base.
